Although some discrepancy exists about which side of the cap the tassel should be worn on, generally undergraduates wear tassels on the left and post-graduate students wear tassels on the right.Occasionally students will switch the tassel from one side of the cap to the other after receivingtheir diploma, and sometimes students graduating on the honor roll or with latin honors ("cum laude") will have a unique tassel color to mark their achievements.

You can purchase your graduation regalia online through Herff Jones until April 8, 2023. Online purchases will be full price. After April 8, students can go in-person to the bookstore to purchase regalia.

Commemorative maroon and gold tassels and announcements are also available for purchase via the Herff Jones online store. Graduation announcements will be delivered to your home address two to three weeks after your order is placed.

Wear your mortarboard like the academic pro you are. Place the cap on your head so the point is in the front, about 1 inch above the eyebrows. Your mortarboard should be worn level on your head, and the tassel should be placed on the right side.

Decorating caps and gowns is not permitted. Flowers are not to be worn on gowns or carried in hand. Caps are to be worn with the tams or mortar boards horizontal and the tassel on the left. Tams/mortar boards should be worn during the Processional, Recessional, and while degrees are being conferred. However, they may be removed at other times.

Undergraduate students are encouraged to celebrate their achievements by decorating their graduation cap. The following guidelines should be observed. Students who do not adhere to these guidelines may be asked to remove their decorated cap and will be given a replacement cap to wear during the ceremony.

The Oxford cap is proper for all degrees and can be worn both indoors and out with academic costume. The tassel, worn over the left eye, symbolizes the degree to be conferred on the wearer; tassels conform to the code colors for hood trimming.

Institutional practice may vary from the established code. University of Iowa candidates for degree display tassels corresponding to the college from which their degree will be granted. Tassels colors for individual colleges can be found above.

The tassel is worn on the right side of the cap for Undergraduates until the end of the commencement ceremony when graduates are instructed to shift the tassel to the left side. The tassel is worn on the left side for Masters and Doctoral.

For those students who were not able to pre-order, regalia (cap, gown, tassel, etc) will be available for purchase through commencement. The regalia will only be available for purchase at the Rowdy Campus Store on the Main Campus.

We recommend underneath the graduation gown, graduates wear dark, professional attire and shoes to complement the black academic regalia of Kennesaw State University. Academic regalia can be purchased through Jostens.

Doctoral Degree graduates wear a gold gown featuring black velvet panels and bars accented with the gold embroidered KSU seal. The cap is a six-corner black velvet tam with two gold tassels. The Doctoral hood is the most distinctive, using black with a gold and black satin lining and accented with the designated discipline color* in velvet.

It is time to purchase your cap and gown and get ready for graduation. In prior years cap & gowns were rentals, but due to demand, we have switched to purchase only gowns. Below are the options for purchasing.

The Grad Fair is a one-stop shop for graduation ceremony preparation at the Hinckley Center. It occurs about nine weeks before April graduation. Our cap and gown provider hosts the Grad Fair to assist students with ordering cap and gowns, rings, announcements, stoles, diploma frames, and other accessories.

To maintain the dignity of the graduation services, graduates are requested not to alter or embellish the cap (mortarboard) or gown. Stoles of Gratitude or honors regalia are appropriate accessories to the basic cap and gown.

Honors program graduates can pick up their v-stole and medallion from the Honors office 102 MSRB. Graduates must return the v-stole after graduation, but the medallion is yours to keep. If you are walking in the Honors Convocation program, then these are required to participate.

Approved Regalia. Decorated caps are not permitted! You may not participate in the ceremony with a decorated cap. Marshals will remove improper attire, signs, and insignia. Any damage to mortarboards will result in a $45.00 fee for cap replacement.
